Best Practices for Submissions

Great content means a better chance of your dog being featured — and finding their forever home faster. Follow these tips!

📹

Shoot Horizontally

  • Always hold your phone in landscape (sideways) mode
  • Vertical video cannot be used on TV and streaming
  • Aim for 16:9 aspect ratio
  • Check before you press record!
☀️

Lighting is Everything

  • Shoot in natural daylight when possible
  • Never shoot with the light source behind the dog (backlight)
  • Face the dog toward a window or open space
  • Avoid dark rooms — bright = better
🎬

Great Video Tips

  • 30 seconds to 3 minutes is the sweet spot
  • Show the dog's personality — let them play, walk, interact
  • Hold the camera steady (prop it or use two hands)
  • Get close enough to see their face clearly
📸

Photo Tips

  • Get at their eye level — crouch down!
  • Use portrait mode for a beautiful blur effect
  • Include a close-up of their face
  • One action shot (running, playing) is great
🎙

Voice Memo Tips

  • Speak clearly and naturally — be yourself!
  • Tell us the dog's name, age, breed and story
  • Mention what kind of home they'd love
  • Keep it to 60–90 seconds max
📝

Writing the Notes

  • Tell us the dog's unique personality
  • Mention how they are with kids, dogs, cats
  • Share their backstory if you know it
  • Include any special needs or medical info
